What's going on?

It has been about a week since I blogged last and you are probably wondering where I have been. Hmm. That was presumptuous of me, I should say that I would like to hope that you are wondering where I have been. Ha!

The reasons that I have been neglecting the blog are good reasons. Let me list me excuses, which are most likely blog topics you will be seeing soon.

1. Talon's birthday was on Tuesday so I made lots of time for him and our family. What kind of "mommy blogger" would I be if I didn't make time to be a good mommy, right? We had lots of fun and played a ton. I also may have cried a little. My baby is one! Why is this so sad for me?

2. With that birthday came a massive birthday party. Like almost 90 people worth of massive. That many people means lots of planning and lots of prep. ESPECIALLY when you are on a budget like mine. I must say I was quite proud of myself for doing it all on such a tight budget. I think I need to add up the cost and share that with you when I post about the super cute party later this week.

3.The Threadery. Nicole and I have been doing lots to prep for the upcoming market. It is a lot of work. A LOT. On the plus side of it, all of the planning has meant lots of hang out time with asn awesome friend who I have lots of fun and laughs with.

On top of these things, we have just been having fun as a family. We went to Pretend City as a family, we have been playing with new birthday toys and just enjoying eachother. I has been lots of fun. I cannot wait to share some of that fun with you later this week. Stay tuned

I {Heart} Mondays - School

There has been so much talk of little ones going back to school. It has me all excited. You see, we plan to start Rhi in Pre-School this year.

She is still really young, she will be 3 in Oct., but since we plan to homeschool her, we have free reigns for the most part.

Although Rhiannon is only 2 and some months, she has such a strong desire to learn. We decided not to hold her back. Let's get the ball rolling, right?

September 19th will be her first day. I have been pinning and bookmarking and taking notes like crazy. There are so many fun things we want to do.

Since I plan to keep school and her play area seperate, I have been looking at fun was to decorate. Here are some of the cute handmade items and crafts that I Heart:

I saw this wreath on Pinterest and fell in love. I would love to have this hanging on the door to whatever room we designate as the classroom. What a reminder that school is fun!

I love the vintage feel of this. So fun to hang our backpacks on after a field trip.

I would love to give the credit for the last two DIY's, unfortunately I found them on pinterest with no origin. Sad Face.

Chalkboard globe? Yes, please. Cute, fun and a learning tool! You cannot beat this globe from DesignSponge. Love!

And my favorite, this AMAZING desk that is already sold from I am going to beg my husband to let me paint Rhi's vintage vanity coral and making it her desk. I am beyond in love with this. The bunting is such a fun touch too.

Looking at all of these goodies make me want to start the room. First, Talon's Birthday party...

Sunday FUN-day

Living in Orange County, we have lots of options as to how we can entertain our kids. We love to get out and have fun as a family. We have hit up all the parks and beaches. We do Disneyland and even some museums but when it comes to a fun and educational trip, nothing has compared to Pretend City.

We took Rhi last year and I was amazed by everything that was there. Pretend Play is a HUGE part of development in kids, so this trip was perfect for us.
Within Pretend City, Rhiannon was able toddle through all of the things you would imagine being in one of our cities (just her size). Her favorites were the doctors office and the fishing docks but there were so many other things to explore. Instead of telling you all about it, I want to invite you all to join us.

Join us? You heard me right. I am inviting you to come with us. Actually Pretend City has invited you.

This Sunday, the 28th of August, it is PBS SoCal Day with Martha Speaks. Pretend City has been so generous and they are offering all Rock-A-Bow readers a 2 for 1 entry coupon! If you want to know more about the event, go here and scroll to the bottom of the page.

Here is your coupon. Click the image to enlarge. Oh and if you come PLEASE find me and say hello. I'll be tweeting while there so let me know if you are looking for us.

Inspiration Workshop - Front Porch

A few weeks, err, cough months ago, I told you all I was going to start linking up over at Gussy Sews for her amazingness that is the Inspiration workshop. I did all of one post and then life happened and I got way side-tracked.

Well, this week I'm back and super inspired. This weeks prompt is The Front Porch. When I read this prompt, I instantly flashbacked to my childhood.

As kids, my siblings and I spend the weekend at grandma and grandpa's every month or so. Everytime we would stay there we would have breakfast on the patio. So much fun and such a fond memory. One that I would love to recreate.

First I need a nice space. Right now we have a mess of a front porch. It is pretty spacious but is covered with toys and a few lounge chairs. There are plenty of memories made, just not pretty ones. Ha!

I would love to put something like this out there. You know to inspire lots of breakfasts and morning memories.
I would LIVE on my porch if it looked like this.

A porch like this would need a meal worthy of serving in such a fun and happy place. If I served up something like this, would you come have breakfast with me?

These spaces and decor bring joy. I need to put some work into my patio. Soon!

Toddler Talk Tuesday

People! You are never going to believe it. I know you won't because I myself am still in shock. In one week from today, I will have not one but two toddlers in my home!

No, I am not adopting or kidnapping another child. My very own little baby boy will be a big bad one year old. Toddler! Ahh! When did this happen? I swear, I blinked and wa-la toddler.

I am trying to convince myself that he is not yet, in fact, a toddler. You see my soon-to-be toddler is not walking and by definition a toddler is someone who walks or is at least learning to.

You see:
a person who toddles, especially a young child learning to walk.

Proof right there, right?

Apparently not because I received an e-mail this weekend from Baby Center with the subject. "Your toddler 12months: Week 1". NOOOO!!!

I refused to believe it. He does not toddle and he is a baby. Baby, baby, baby!!! You get where I am going with this, right?

But then, my mean old husband took this picture and the truth is evident. He is no longer a baby. He is in fact a toddler.

(Nevermind the fact that he is driving his sister's pink ATV while wearing a shirt with the #1 rule being No Girls Allowed...hypocrite!)

I am not ready for this. I think I need another baby. Not to replace anyone, just because I need a baby in my home. It is only right.

Good news for you though. I now have 2 toddlers. That means Toddler Talk has to be twice as fun!

Maybe It's Maybeline

I was 15 with already low self-esteem when a boy teased me, saying the words "Maybe she's born with it, Maybe it's Maybeline....NO it's definitely maybeline!!!"

Those words have stuck with me. He may have been joking or just being a mean boy. The words may have been funny. However, to a girl who already hated everything about her appearance, those words were devastating.

How could I, now, as a grown woman still let these words haunt me? Why must I still put on makeup everytime I leave the house, even if it's only for a trip to the store?

More importantly, why am I letting my daughter see her mommy act this way? I tell her how beautiful she is constantly BUT what are my actions of having to cover myself with make-up teaching her?

Beyond that, what does my complaining and stressing over every detail teach her? My weight, my hair, all things in vanity.

I saw this image on pinterest and it broke my heart. Is this what I am teaching my almost three year old?

Today I will leave my house with no makeup. I will let my daughter see my confidence of who I am in the Lord and not who I was in the eyes of that 17 year old boy.

Although words cut deep, we cannot let them define us. Although magazines portray what society thinks we should look like, we cannot let them consume us.

I'm not saying that by putting on make-up or dieting we are teaching our children to hate themselves. But when we let it control us and our lives, it can be dangerous.

Choose to see yourself as Jesus sees you and not how you see yourself in the mirror. I am challenging myself to that. Will you all join me?

Toddler Talk Tuesday

Remember about a month ago, I told you all about our Summer Bucket list? We have been having a blast with it. Beach days, hikes, bike rides and more beach days. We have made so many memories this summer.

This weekend we did pottery. The plan was to make some bowls or vases, something of the sort. Something easy. We went and bought the clay and Rhi instantly decided that we should make Ariel. We were up for the challenge.

We pulled out the clay and some water to begin our project. Rhi assigned our characters. "Mommy make Ariel, Daddy King Triton, I make flounder!"

We got to work and got serious. Ha! No, for real. We got so into this happened. Umm...who was watching the baby?

Here are some of the memories that we captured.

A few sidenotes: 11m olds shouldn't play with clay and neither should I.

Queen Bee Market Recap, Sort of

The Queen Bee was amazing as usual. I always have so much fun at this market. The booths are awesome and the vendors are all amazing.

I was lucky enough to have hubby along with me. He snapped some pictures for me, so hopefully I can make you feel like you were there with me. He took lots of pictures of my booth setup.

My plan was to have lots of photos, you know of everything. BUT, remember the vendors I just mentioned, turns out they are all really fun to hang out with. So, no pictures. Not a one.

Here's my fun setup though:

Next time, I promise to get more pictures. Although, that is what I said last time and possibly the time before that!

First off let me confess, I have a love affair with Starbucks and my sewing machine. I admit it.

Bible Sleeves have been a huge hit. So I stocked up on those babies!

I also stocked up on artfolios. Because, well, they keep selling out. I suggest you get yours QUICK!

Awww headbands. You can never have to many. Am I right?

Oh and something new. It may even be in the shop after Queen Bee. These fun little clips!

See you all at Queen Bee.

Queen Bee Market

Guest Posts and a Wordless Wednesday? I have been such a lazy blogger. No worries, I have an excuse. It's a good one too.
Queen Bee Market is this weekend!

This time around, the market will be in Downtown San Diego at the Bayfront Hilton. My friends it is gonna be off the hook. Do people still say that?

Please, tell me you will be there. I will be hanging out all day. Make sure to say hello. I would love to meet you or see you again. Make sure to tweet me or something so I know you are there.

I whipped up some extra bible sleeves and artfolios for you. They have both sold out at the last couple of shows, so make sure to snatch yours up quick.

I am beyond excited for Queen Bee and I really want to see you there! Did I say that already?
